CLIENT BRIEF AT A GLANCE

The client needed a complete event production partner that could manage the technical delivery of the WICE Awards 2024 from planning to live show execution.

For an awards ceremony of this scale, the production had to support more than simple equipment hire. The event needed a polished stage environment, clear sound for every speaker, strong visual impact for winner announcements and lighting that could shift smoothly between arrival, speeches, award presentations and live entertainment.

EMS Events was responsible for bringing these elements together under one production plan. This included the LED video wall, staging, lighting, PA system, microphones, speakers and laptop playback. The aim was to create a professional awards night experience where every cue, announcement and live moment felt smooth, clear and well-managed.

About The WICE Awards 2024

The WICE Awards, the European Women in Construction & Engineering Awards, are an annual industry awards scheme established in 2015. Its stated mission is to break down barriers and build new heights for women in construction and engineering by creating role models for women considering careers in the sector and encouraging companies to employ and train more women.

The awards address a measurable industry gap. Women represent only 11% of the UK construction workforce and 9% of UK engineering professionals. WICE 2024 attracted more than 430 nominations from across Europe, including France, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy and Chile, with the ceremony recognising winners across approximately 26 categories. Rachelle McDade of Currie & Brown was among the 2024 winners.

The Challenge: Delivering a Polished Show With Live Performance, Speeches and Audience Energy

The brief required four production layers: LED video walls, stage lighting, a full PA system and laptop playback to operate as a single coordinated production rather than four separate vendor installations. Awards ceremonies run on fixed running orders and tight cue timings, with limited opportunity to correct issues during the live event. With 26 categories to present and an audience of senior construction and engineering professionals, the production needed to maintain pace while delivering consistent quality across every winner moment.

How We Brought The Event To Life

EMS Events delivered the event as a full production engagement, with one account team responsible for all four production layers from planning through to show day.

High-Impact LED Screens
For The Awards Stage

Absen LED video wall panels were supplied from the EMS Central London warehouse, configured against a fully built stage. The video wall served as the central stage backdrop, carrying WICE branding, finalist videos and winner reveals. An in-house operator managed transitions from the show caller’s cues.

Stage
lighting

A combined plot of intelligent moving fixtures and static washes covered key states: house lighting for arrival, full stage lighting for presentations, softer wash states for speeches, and performance lighting for live entertainment. Lighting was designed to provide consistent coverage for every winner walking to the stage.

Clear Audio For Every Speaker And Performance

Audio was one of the most important parts of the WICE Awards production because the event included hosts, presenters, award recipients and live performance moments.

We supplied a full PA system designed to give the room consistent sound coverage from front to back. This helped ensure speeches, announcements and performances could be heard clearly across the audience area without distortion or uneven volume.

Wireless handheld microphones were provided for the host, presenters and award recipients, giving the show team flexibility during live segments. Backup microphones were also available to reduce risk during key moments. This meant the event could continue smoothly if a microphone needed to be swapped quickly.

The sound setup was managed by an on-site audio engineer, who controlled microphone levels, music playback and live sound throughout the ceremony. This helped maintain a professional listening experience from the first announcement to the final performance.

Professional Microphone Support For Hosts, Speakers And Performers

The microphone setup was planned around the movement and structure of the awards ceremony.

Hosts and presenters needed clear, reliable microphones for introductions, category announcements and live links. Award recipients needed microphones that could be handed over quickly without delaying the running order. Performers required microphones that supported movement on stage while keeping the vocals clear over the PA system.

By using handheld wireless microphones, EMS Events gave the event team the flexibility needed for a fast-moving live show. The setup allowed presenters and performers to move naturally while keeping the audience connected to every spoken and performance moment.

From Setup To Show Time, On-Site Delivery

On the day of the event, EMS Events managed the technical setup, testing and live delivery:

Pre-production

Running order, cue sheet, technical plot and content schedule were signed off before equipment dispatch.

Technical rehearsal

Full walk-through covering host links, finalist videos, winner walk-ons, music cues and transitions.

Show day

An in-house team covered the LED video wall operator, lighting operator, sound engineer running the PA and microphones, laptop content operator, and project manager.

Logistics

Equipment was supplied from the EMS Events 18,000 sq ft warehouse close to Tower Bridge, supporting on-site contingency.

Client Feedback

The client team was pleased with the smooth technical delivery and the professional support provided throughout the WICE Awards 2024. From setup and testing to live show management, EMS Events helped ensure the ceremony ran confidently, with clear audio, sharp visuals and reliable on-site production support.

Moments From The Night

The Outcome

The WICE Awards 2024 ceremony was delivered with a complete production setup that supported the event from guest arrival through to the final award moments and live entertainment.

The LED video wall gave the stage a strong visual focus and helped display branding, finalist content and winner reveals clearly. The lighting design added atmosphere while keeping the stage suitable for speeches, photographs and live moments. The PA system and microphones ensured the audience could hear hosts, presenters, award recipients and performers clearly throughout the night.

With EMS Events managing the production under one coordinated plan, the event avoided the complexity of working with separate suppliers for sound, lighting, screens and playback. This helped create a smoother delivery process and a more consistent experience for the client, guests and speakers.
