THE LIGHTING BRIEF FOR THE SCREENING ROOM

Firmdale Hotels PLC held an internal staff event at Ham Yard Hotel in the Screening Room on Thursday, 4 June 2026, running from 13:30 through 18:30, with setup earlier that afternoon from 12:00 and same-day derig at 19:00.

The lighting brief was compact but specific: give the Screening Room a consistent brand-colour atmosphere for the length of the event, and project a bespoke client-designed full-colour gobo across the space as a signature visual identifier tied to Firmdale’s own brand identity for the day.

For the room wash, eight wireless battery-powered LED PAR cans were positioned around the screening room, preset to a specific colour chosen by the client. For the gobo projection, two Chauvet Rogue 3 Spot moving-head profile fixtures on 1.5-metre truss plinths carried the bespoke design, produced as a full-colour gobo with a backup copy for redundancy.

The brief also called for a delivery model without on-site technician support. Once the setup was in place and colour-checked, the lighting was handed to the Firmdale team for the length of the event, with derig scheduled for 19:00 the same evening.

Its Screening Room is a private cinema space used regularly for film premieres, awards ceremonies, private screenings, product launches and internal events.

For a compact lighting brief in a screening room, with the client’s own visual identity as the anchor, the space’s controlled environment and existing architectural character gave the eight LED PAR fixtures and the two gobo projectors the room they needed to create a considered, brand-coloured atmosphere for the duration of the event.

THE LIGHTING BRIEF: A BRAND-COLOUR WASH AND A BESPOKE GOBO PROJECTION IN THE SCREENING ROOM

The production brief was compact but craft-led. The Ham Yard Screening Room needed a consistent brand-colour atmosphere throughout the event, along with a signature bespoke gobo projection tied to Firmdale’s visual identity for the day.

A traditional cabled stage lighting rig with a full lighting console would not have suited the format. It would have added visible cabling to a space where the venue’s own design is part of the guest experience, required an operator through the afternoon and evening, and needed a more involved load-in and derig cycle.

The alternative was a wireless battery-powered LED PAR wash preset to the client’s colour, and a two-fixture Chauvet Rogue 3 Spot setup on truss plinths projecting the bespoke Firmdale-designed full-colour gobo, both delivered as a set-and-leave dry hire with no on-site technician for the duration.

DELIVERING THE LIGHTING PRODUCTION FOR THE SCREENING ROOM

EMS Events treated the Firmdale brief as a compact, high-craft lighting delivery. One plan covered fixture selection, colour presetting from the client’s brand reference, the truss plinth build for the gobo projectors, gobo insertion, and installation timing around the 13:30 doors. There was no on-site technician for the duration; the setup was handed to the Firmdale team once installed and colour-checked.

EIGHT WIRELESS BATTERY LED PAR CANS PRESET TO THE CLIENT'S BRAND COLOUR

Eight wireless battery-powered LED PAR cans in a black finish gave the screening room its base colour wash. Positioned around the space, each fixture was preset before delivery in a specific colour chosen by the Firmdale team, giving the room a consistent, brand-coloured atmosphere throughout the event.

The fixtures use an RGBWA+UV colour system, allowing a wide range of colours to be dialled in before delivery. Once set, the LED cans hold their colour through a full battery cycle, so no adjustments were needed on the day.

The wireless battery design allowed EMS Events to position fixtures anywhere in the screening room without power cabling, keeping the visible space clean and letting the lighting sit as an atmospheric layer over the venue’s own design.

TWO CHAUVET ROGUE 3 SPOTS ON 1.5M TRUSS PLINTHS FOR THE GOBO PROJECTION

Two Chauvet Professional Rogue 3 Spot moving-head profile fixtures carried the custom gobo projection. Each was mounted on a 1.5-metre truss plinth built from Truss F34 with 300 by 300 and 400 by 400 base plates, giving the fixtures a clean vertical anchor and the right height for gobo projection across the Screening Room.

The Chauvet Rogue 3 Spot is a professional moving-head profile fixture designed for gobo, focus and effect work in permanent and touring installations. Its LED source and precise optics give the projection sharp definition and clean colour rendering, well suited to a bespoke design.

The two-fixture setup gave the screening room dual-angle projection, allowing the gobo to cover the visible space from two different angles rather than relying on a single fixture.

BESPOKE CLIENT-DESIGNED FULL-COLOUR GOBO WITH A BACKUP COPY FOR REDUNDANCY

The gobo itself was a bespoke design supplied to EMS Events by the Firmdale team, produced as a full-colour gobo for insertion into the Chauvet Rogue 3 Spot fixtures. Full-colour gobos use high-resolution printing on a suitable substrate rather than being cut from meta, allowing the design to carry multiple colours, gradients and fine detail that a metal gobo could not reproduce.

A backup copy of the same gobo was supplied alongside the first, giving redundancy against any issues on the day. If the primary gobo were damaged, dropped or misplaced during setup, the backup could be swapped in without needing to source a replacement.

The two-fixture setup meant both gobos could run simultaneously, one per Rogue 3 Spot, or one held in reserve for the length of the event.

SET-AND-LEAVE DRY HIRE WITH SAME-DAY SETUP, HANDOVER AND DERIG

Our setup crew arrived at Ham Yard Hotel at 12:00, an hour and a half ahead of the 13:30 opening, to install the eight LED PAR cans, the two Chauvet Rogue 3 Spots on their truss plinths, the bespoke gobos and the associated event consumables.

Once positioned, colour-checked, and gobo-aligned, the lighting was handed over to the Firmdale team for the duration of the event. The set-and-leave configuration meant the client team could focus on running their event without needing to coordinate with a lighting operator during the afternoon and evening.

The EMS Events crew returned at 19:00, immediately after the 18:30 finish, to clear the fixtures and return the equipment to the warehouse the same evening on a transit-insured van.

The two-fixture setup gave the screening room dual-angle projection, allowing the gobo to cover the visible space from two different angles rather than relying on a single fixture.

THE PRODUCTION DAY, FROM 12:00 SETUP TO 19:00 DERIG

The lighting delivery was staged around the Firmdale team’s confirmed event timings, with an afternoon setup and evening derig on the same day, 4 June.
