THE LIGHTING BRIEF
One World Media held its annual awards ceremony in the Screening Room at Ham Yard Hotel in Soho on the evening of Wednesday, 17 June 2026. The event brought guests together for a formal awards presentation, followed by short filmed interview segments in the same room after the ceremony had closed.
The lighting brief was to provide the Screening Room with a consistent, brand-matched colour wash throughout the ceremony and the subsequent filmed segments. One World Media supplied a reference image of the specific pink they wanted, with a note that this shade was on brand for the organisation.
The brief also called for a delivery model that would not add operational overhead on the night. The client team was running the ceremony themselves, and a set-and-leave lighting package meant they could focus on the event without needing to coordinate with a lighting operator during the evening.
ABOUT THE ONE WORLD MEDIA AWARDS AND HAM YARD HOTEL
The One World Media Awards are the annual awards run by One World Media, a UK charity that supports international journalism and filmmaking focused on the developing world. The awards recognise reporting, documentary, feature, and digital work covering global development, human rights, and international affairs, and the ceremony brings together journalists, filmmakers, and industry figures each year in London.
The 2026 edition was held at Ham Yard Hotel, a boutique Firmdale hotel located at One Ham Yard in Soho, central London. The hotel’s Screening Room is a private theatre space used regularly for film premieres, awards ceremonies, private screenings, and cultural events. Its scale and design suit a ceremony format in which the room’s own character is part of the guest experience, rather than a conventional conference setting.
For a lighting brief focused on a brand-matched colour wash rather than a full show rig, the Screening Room’s controlled environment and clean architectural lines gave the eight wireless fixtures the space they needed to give the room a consistent atmospheric colour.
THE MAIN CHALLENGE WAS A WIRELESS COLOUR WASH SIZED TO THE ROOM AND SET TO BRAND
The production challenge was to give the screening room a consistent, brand-matched colour atmosphere throughout the ceremony and the filmed interviews that followed, using a lighting package that could be installed cleanly, run without an operator, and cleared cleanly from the venue afterwards.
Cabled fixtures, patched channels and a lighting console would not have suited the format. It would have required an operator through the evening, added visible cabling to a space where the venue’s own design is part of the guest experience, and needed a more involved load-in and derig cycle.
The alternative was a wireless battery-powered LED PAR can setup, preset to the client’s brand pink and left to run through the ceremony without live control. This gave EMS Events a cleaner installation and gave the One World Media team a self-contained lighting package that would not compete for their attention during the ceremony.
AND EMS EVENTS SUCCESSFULLY DELIVERED THE BRAND-MATCHED LIGHTING SETUP
EMS Events treated the One World Media brief as a compact, high-craft lighting delivery. One plan covered fixture selection, colour presetting based on the client’s brand reference, installation timing around the 19:00 doors, handover to the client and venue team, overnight equipment storage, and next-morning collection. There was no on-site technician for the duration of the event.
8 Wireless Battery LED Par Cans For A Full Room Colour Wash
The core of the setup was eight wireless battery-powered LED PAR cans in a black finish, positioned around the screening room to give an even colour wash across the space. Each fixture is a self-contained unit with its own rechargeable battery pack and integrated LED colour mixing, allowing for clean placement anywhere in the venue without power cabling.
The fixtures cover the RGBWA plus UV colour spectrum: red, green, blue, white, amber, and ultraviolet—providing full flexibility for colour selection and mixing.
Positioned around the Screening Room, the eight fixtures gave the space a consistent brand-coloured atmosphere for guests arriving at the ceremony and through the filmed interview segments afterwards.

Colour Preset To One World Media Brand Pink
Ahead of delivery, each of the eight fixtures was preset to a specific pink matched to One World Media’s brand identity, using a reference image supplied by the client team. Getting the colour right at the warehouse meant the client and venue team could open the space to guests without needing to configure or adjust the lighting on the day.
The pink wash gave the screening room a consistent, on-brand look for the ceremony itself and for the filmed interview segments that followed the awards. Rather than the default stage lighting palette, the colour choice supported the client’s own visual identity, making the space read as an extension of the awards brand rather than a rented room.
The RGBWA plus UV LED cans hold their colour setting throughout a battery cycle, so no adjustments were needed once the fixtures were in position and turned on.

Cable-Free Installation For A Clean Visible Setup
The wireless battery design of the LED PAR cans allowed EMS Events to place fixtures anywhere in the screening room without running power cabling. That kept the visible space clean, with no cable runs across the floor or up the walls, and let the setup crew position the lighting purely for colour coverage rather than working around power access points.
Each PAR can is a compact black cabinet designed to sit unobtrusively in an event space. The lighting reads as part of the room’s atmosphere rather than as a visible production rig.
Cable-free installation is particularly suited to venues where the visible aesthetic matters, such as boutique hotels, screening rooms, private galleries and awards spaces, where a traditional cabled lighting setup would compete with the room’s own design.
Set-And-Leave Delivery With Overnight Storage
The EMS setup crew delivered and installed the eight LED PAR cans in the screening room from 18:00, an hour before doors opened at 19:00. Once positioned and set to the pink brand colour, the fixtures were handed over to the client and venue team, and no on-site technician was required for the duration.
The set-and-leave configuration meant the One World Media team could focus on running the ceremony and the filmed interviews afterwards without needing to coordinate with a lighting operator during the evening.
The venue agreed to keep the fixtures in place overnight after the 22:30 finish. An EMS breakdown crew returned on Thursday, 18 June, and collected the equipment ahead of the venue’s next event later that day.
THE PRODUCTION DAY, FROM INSTALL TO NEXT-MORNING COLLECTION
The lighting delivery was staged around the ceremony timings agreed with the client and the venue, with same-evening install and next-morning collection.
Pre-production
Kit prep at the EMS Event’s warehouse: 8 wireless battery LED PAR cans were charged, tested, and preset to the specific pink referenced in the One World Media brand image, so the fixtures arrived on-site ready to run without any adjustment.
Load-In And Setup From 18:00
The EMS setup crew arrived at Ham Yard Hotel at 18:00, one hour before the doors opened. Fixtures were positioned around the screening room for even colour coverage, powered on, colour-checked and handed over to the client and venue team ahead of the 19:00 opening.
Awards Ceremony 19:00 To 22:30
The ceremony ran from 19:00, with the presentation wrapping up by 21:45, followed by short filmed interview segments in the same room until the 22:30 finish. EMS Events technician was on-site during this period; the fixtures ran on their preset colour throughout.
Overnight Storage And Collection
Equipment stayed in position overnight at the venue by arrangement with Ham Yard Hotel. Our crew returned on the morning of Thursday 18 June and collected the fixtures ahead of the venue's next event later that day.
HOW THE CEREMONY WAS LIT
The eight wireless LED PAR cans gave the Screening Room a consistent pink colour wash from the moment guests arrived at 19:00 through to the close of the filmed interviews at 22:30. The colour held steady across the length of the ceremony without adjustment, running on the preset from the warehouse and the battery cycle across the fixtures.
Because the setup required no on-site technician, the One World Media team ran the ceremony without needing to coordinate with a lighting operator during the evening. The cable-free installation kept the room visually clean, so the lighting worked as an atmospheric layer over the venue’s own design rather than as a visible production rig.
Equipment stayed in position overnight at the venue by arrangement with Ham Yard Hotel, and the EMS breakdown crew returned on the morning of Thursday 18 June to collect the fixtures ahead of the venue’s next event.
By supplying wireless battery-powered fixtures preset to the client’s brand colour, EMS Events gave One World Media a self-contained lighting package that fit the event’s aesthetic without adding operational overhead to the ceremony delivery.
Client Feedback
“Really happy with how everything turned out. You guys were lovely to deal with and made the whole thing really easy for us. The lighting looked spot on; the pink worked brilliantly with our branding, and everything was ready to go before guests arrived. We especially liked that once it was set up, we didn’t have to think about it again. A really clean setup that worked perfectly for the evening. Thanks again, you made it all very forthright.” One World Media event team
